Old habits die hard
A Loop Cartoon
As mentioned last week, I was playing around with a scribbly, primitive style of cartoon, which I still think is cool, but the results weren’t what I desired in the short term (I’ll keep working on it … or not).
In the meantime, I remembered one of my favorite cartoonists of all time—Richard Guindon. His self-titled, single-panel gags appeared in either the Kansas City Star or the Kansas City Times (I forget which), along with a handful of other newspapers across the nation, in the 1980s.
I used to re-draw his cartoons to practice his style of simple—yet controlled— lines, dots, and hatching. Having rediscovered him this week, I’ve found that I still love to draw in this manner.
In a sad coincidence, while researching his works online, I learned that he just passed away at the age of 86 late last month.
