The 1942 Negro Leagues World Series Champion Kansas City Monarchs never got a parade like the Royals or the Chiefs, but tomorrow morning (Saturday the 6th), the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and baseball fans in the region are going to change all that with a “March of the Monarchs” from Monarch Plaza (site of old Municipal Stadium) to the museum.
I thought it would be fun to imagine the revelry if Satchel Paige, Buck O’Neil, Booker McDaniel, Hilton Smith, Ted Strong, Willard Bown and other KC players had climbed atop firetrucks from the day and paraded through the streets of Downtown with their championship trophy for all to cheer.
